You have to be living under a rock if you haven't heard of this stage play. It's everywhere! It won numerous Tonys, been all over the news since it debuted last February and even has fans like Ed Sheeran, Taye Diggs, Mariska Hargitay, and the President of the United States!
Hamilton is a hip hop musical about one of the founding fathers, Alexander Hamilton, with music, lyrics and book by Lin-Manuel Miranda. The man is a genius! I don't know how he did it, but he made this historical story one of the most sought after tickets on Broadway. The demand is so high, even with the new shows being added in Chicago and San Francisco. Like most people I haven't had the chance to see it live (and with ticket prices being what they are I probably won't be able to), but thanks to Spotify (and iTunes, Google Play, Amazon, etc) I'm able to listen to the soundtrack any time I want to. Not a week goes by without me listening to at least the title track and My Shot, but honestly the entire soundtrack is worth a listen. I love shocking people when they find out I'm listening to Broadway songs that sound more like the hip-hop tracks on the radio than traditional Broadway tunes. In fact, you should take a listen yourself and let me know what you think.
