This playlist has been a long time coming. In fact, I'm not sure why I didn't already have some sort of variation of it created already. The sheer number of people in my life who are from the diaspora, the huge Nigerian community here in Houston, the feeling of FOMO from everyone and their mom going to Ghana last month for the 'Year of Return' and then the rise in popularity of the genre recently led to the creation of this playlist. I got tired of searching for all of these songs individually and then queuing them up in Spotify, so I put a few of my favorite Afrobeats tracks in one place.
There's some Jidenna (with his fine self), Davido and even Beyonce's 'Lion King' project on here, and this doesn't even begin to scratch the surface. I dare you to listen to this mix and not dance.
