I've been traveling quite a bit this year and I love it. Between concerts and just visiting friends in various parts of the great nation I've clocked some serious miles. Most recently I did a quick day trip to Austin to visit my cousin who is a freshman at UT this year. We left early last Saturday morning and made it back into Houston on Sunday around 5PM. I like mini getaways, especially when I can get a lot of stuff done in that time. I've been to Austin a million times, but I learned a few things on this trip.1. Don't go during ACL unless you plan on going to ACL. The city was swarming with people, and even though the weather was supposed to be terrible and rainy on Saturday & Sunday people were still out in droves. We went toGuero'sin SoCo (one of my favorites there) and there was a wait for 45 minutes! But not for us. Thank God we have 5 people and that the manager was standing at the hostess booth when I walked in. He had us seated immediately in a corner booth and as we were being seated we saw Damien Fahey leaving the restaurant. My inner TRL teen squealed a bit. Of course I had to tweet about it.

2. A lot of the outlet stores in San Marcos give an additional discount to students who show their university IDsany university! How did I not know about the additional 10% discount before!?! I'm definitely keeping that in mind the next time I go visit my younger cousin and youngest sister (who's at Texas State now). I went to the outlet mall with one goal in mind, picking up a new wallet to hold me over until I get the Kate Spade wallet I've been eyeing for Christmas. We walked into Coach and they were having a 50% off of everything sale so me being the smart shopper that I am went to the clearance section and snagged this wallet for the initial 40% off and additional 50% off!

It's absolutely adorable and perfect for fall. It's big enough to hold what's important and small enough to keep me from hoarding receipts. I also grabbed a iPhone case for my sister just for helping me out. 3. Pluckers near UT has a full bar and serves their sweet tea out of mason jars. Seriously! You guys have to go and check them out. The food is delicious and the margaritas are good!4. Habitat Suites serves a decent continental breakfast, but doesn't let you bring it back to your room. Normally I wouldn't have minded that, but it started storming Saturday night and didn't stop raining until around noon on Sunday. I didn't want to leave the room for breakfast, but had to. It continued raining once we got on the road, but we made it home in a decent drive. I don't have another trip to Austin planned in the near future, but I might have to change that. I didn't get a chance to hit up my favorite bar on 6th street because of the rain and I plan on making up for lost times the next time I visit. Have y'all ever been to Austin? If so, what are some of your favorite places there?
